[From IMDB:] Four young men who belong to a supernatural legacy are forced to battle a fifth power long thought to have died out. Another great force they must contend with is the jealousy and suspicion that threatens to tear them apart.
Despite the fact that they have very little in common, it’s impossible for me not to think of The Covenant as an inferior version of The Craft.
It’s all just so overwrought. The acting, the plot, the setting, the characters – all of it, so overdone that it’s impossible to think of it as anything but the cheesiest of the cheese.
Honestly, I try to be balanced in these posts. So, yes, The Covenant is filmed well. And the CGI is good. But…yeah, that’s basically where anything good ends.
I just find it very hard to find a bunch of privileged, attractive white guys fighting over the degree to which they’re priviledged; or the struggle over a blonde, blue-eyed girl that becomes the symbol of that privilege.
Normally, I’d try to struggle my way through another hundred words or so, but I just can’t find the motivation to do so for The Convenant. It’s so white bread – so boring compared to its roots – that I’m just like, ehhhhhhhhhhh.
If this ends up getting a sequel before The Craft though, I will head to the streets (read: the internet) holding an angrily worded sign. Because, fuck privileged white guys, man. Bring on the (much more interesting) women.
