Demons (1985) IMDB

Synopsis:

[From IMDB:] A group of people are trapped in a large movie theater in West Berlin that is infected by ravenous demons who proceed to kill and posses the humans one-by-one, thereby multiplying their numbers.

My take:

This movie is glorious. By which I mean it’s terrible, but in a good way.

The white characters are barely even characters at all, and the black characters are Tony the Pimp and one of his prostitutes. I was waiting for the male leads to start making out with each other at any moment, and then one of them seems to transform into an action hero (but only well after it was useful for him to do so). At some point a helicopter comes through the cinema’s roof, because why not?

The script is full of gems like this:

Cheryl: I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s the movie that’s making this happen!

Tony the Pimp: She’s right. She put on that mask and scratched herself, get it? Because of that scratch, she became a demon. An instrument of evil, like they said in the damn movie, you heard it. We got to stop it I tell you, we got to stop the movie!

And the special effects are simultaneously so over-the-top, and gruesomely horrible, that I didn’t know whether to laugh or feel queasy half the time.

I was amused, grossed out, and left feeling a little stunned by the time the movie had ended. What else could I have asked for?
