According to his website, Chris McKenney is a conceptual photographer based in Pennsylvania, specialising in horror surrealist photography.
I’m not going to say too much about his work, because I think it speaks for itself; but what I really like about his work is the way that McKenney has contrasted his ghastly scenes against otherwise beautifully idyllic scenery. I feel like this contrast is a really important element of horror, because it’s that point where the known meets the unknown that there’s the most potential for creating unease.
There’s also a stillness to McKenney’s work that I’m sure belies the amount of work that must be put into achieving these shots, but which really lets you hone in on the themes and imagery of the photographs.
Do you know of any horror-themed art that you think I might want to feature? Let me know about it!
